After the sixth-gen VW Polo, Volkswagen is readying the VW Virtus, a new small sedan for Brazil. Noticias automotivas has posted fresh spy shots of the VW Virtus, captured while the car was undergoing road tests in Brazil.
Volkswagen may keep hiding the VW Virtus test mules with camouflage, but spy shots from the production floor have already exposed the final design. The VW Virtus will have the same front-end as the (Brazilian-spec) 2017 VW Polo. From the sides, it will look different from behind the B-pillar for obvious reasons. The wheelbase is expected to expand from the hatchback’s 2,564 mm figure to a little over 2,600 mm. At the rear, the small sedan will have Audi A4-inspired wraparound tail lamps and a differently designed bumper.
The 2017 VW Polo is available with 1.0-litre MPI, 1.6-litre MSI and 1.0-litre TSI flex-fuel engines in Brazil. The Virtus should share the 1.6-litre MSI and 1.0-litre TSI engines with the hatch. The 1.6-litre engine produces up to 117 cv (117 hp) and up to 16.5 kgf.m (161.81 Nm) of torque. The 1.0-litre engine develops up to 128 cv (128 hp) and 20.4 kgf.m (200.06 Nm) of torque. Transmission choices may include 5-speed manual (1.6L MSI) and 6-speed automatic (1.0L TSI). The Fiat X6S rival should have a boot space of around 500 litres.

Volkswagen will manufacture the VW Virtus in Sao Bernardo do Campo in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The 2017 VW Polo’s production takes place here. The Brazilian launch of the Virtus is programed in Q1 2018. Volkswagen India, we hear, is not thinking about introducing the Virtus.
