Autogespot has posted a photo of a Lamborghini Urus test mule snapped at a gas station in Europe.
Billed as the ‘world’s first super SUV’, the Lamborghini Urus is the Raging Bull’s second SUV after the classic LM002 from 1986. It dates back to 2012 when it bowed as a concept at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. The production version features a toned-down exterior design, but it is still very close to the concept version.
At the front, the headlamps look slimmer, the grille layout is notably different with a much larger space for the upper grille which is now in a honeycomb design, revised side air intakes with horizontal slats and remodelled bumper. On the sides, the conventional door handles and mirrors are the main changes to look for. Previous spy shots have shown the fitment of roof rails.
At the rear, the production version does not have the large openings below the tail lamps. It probably has vertical air vents much below the outer end of the tail lamps now. Circular tailpipes have replaced the trapezoidal tailpipes, and above them, the production version probably has slim light reflectors. The bumper is also quite different from that of the concept version.
Like the Audi Q8, the Lamborghini Urus will ride on the MLB-Evo platform. With the Urus, Lamborghini will adopt turbocharging. At launch, the exotic SUV will sport a 650 hp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine sourced from Porsche. A plug-in hybrid powertrain, also a first for Lamborghini, will follow a year later. It will use a V6 petrol engine as the main source of power.
Lamborghini will manufacture the Lamborghini Urus in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. The company aims to sell it in much bigger volumes compared to the LM002, of which just circa 300 units were made. The estimated annual sales volume for the Urus is 3,000 units. The company has selected USA, China, the Middle East, the UK, Germany and Russia as the main target markets. The production Lamborghini Urus will have its world premiere on 4 December 2017.
