At its launch in July, the Jeep Compass was available only in the diesel engine model. The Jeep Compass petrol’s production commenced last month, and Jeep confirmed that the variant would be ready during Diwali. This week, Facebook user Saju Scaria has posted images of this variant from a dealership.
The Jeep Compass’ petrol engine is the 1.4-litre MultiAir unit. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 163 PS at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque from 2,500-4,000 rpm. Customers can opt this engine with either a 6-speed manual transmission or the 7-speed DDCT dual-clutch automatic transmission. Both transmissions send the drive to the front wheels only. The manual transmission model’s fuel economy rating from ARAI is awaited. The automatic transmission model has a certified fuel economy rating of 14.1 km/l.
The Jeep Compass comes in Sport, Longitude and Limited grades. Jeep offers the petrol engine option only in Sport and Limited. The Sport grade features daytime running lamps, 16-inch steel wheels, rear wiper and defogger, rear spoiler, capless fuel filler, rear armrest with cup holders, 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, electronic parking brake, driver airbag, dual stage passenger airbags, TCS, ESC, ABS with EBD, HSA, Electronic Roll Mitigation and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

The Limited grade’s talking points are the signature LED position lamps, cornering fog lamps, power folding ORVMs, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, rear fog lamps, roof rails, door scuff plates, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, activated carbon air filter, 6-speaker sound system and reverse parking sensors and camera. An optional pack that adds Bi-Xenon HID headlamps and a dual-tone roof is available.
