Audi has already fulfilled its promise of launching 10 products in India in 2017. We expect the new Q5 to arrive early next year before the end of the first quarter.

The test car bears '35 TDI' badging indicating a 2.0 L TDI diesel resides under the hood. The Q5's global lineup includes three variants of the 2.0 L diesel - 150 hp, 163 hp, and 190 hp. A 7-speed S Tronic gearbox handles transmission duties. Audi's Quattro AWD setup will be standard across the Q5 range.

In its second generation, the design of the Audi Q5 has evolved to match the current Audi family look. The nose looks more aggressive and features a broader, single piece grille with enlarged top corners extending to the headlamps. The headlamps and tail lamps get full LED treatment. The rear section looks nearly identical to the outgoing model. Changes to the cabin are much more comprehensive. The Audi Q5 will be offered with the fully digital Virtual Cockpit setup.

The 2017 Audi Q5 is based on the MLB Evo platform that also underpins the Q7 and A4. It is lighter than its predecessor by up to 90 kg. However, dimensionally, it has grown and now measures 4.66 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and 1.66 meters tall with a wheelbase of 2.82 meters.

Audi India promised 10 launches in 2017 and with the arrival of the A5 Coupe and Cabriolet and S5, the company has already fulfilled that promise. Hence, the launch of the Audi Q5 is likely to take place early next year. Audi, like parent company VW and its subsidiaries, will not be making an appearance at the Auto Expo in February 2018.
