IAB reader Sarun Selvanesan has sent us spy pictures of the Renault Captur. The company has confirmed that the SUV will be launched in India this year. Renault has already commenced promotional activities in the form of teaser images and videos via social media and has invited the media to sample the car later this month.

Renault Captur Spied rear view with LED tail lamp signature
Renault says the Captur is more premium product than the Duster.

Much of the exterior of the test mule is wrapped in camouflage. The images only reveal details like the tail lamp's LED glow pattern and the alloy wheel design. Shots of the rear also reveal the high mounted stop lamp, roof spoiler, a conventional roof mounted antenna and a rear windshield wiper.

In terms of appearance, the Captur will be identical to the model sold in Brazil and in Russia (sold there as the Renault Kaptur). The teaser released by Renault confirms the presence of C-shape LED DRLs, black body cladding on the front and rear bumpers and around the wheel arches. The images also reveals a dual tone black and Cayenne Orange paint job similar to the global model.

The dashboard will also get a dual tone theme as evident from spy pictures of the Renault Captur's interior that emerged online in July. Features will include a 7-inch MediaNav 3.0 infotainment system, cruise control, four airbags. There will be plenty of customization options on offer as well, Renault has confirmed.

Although the India-bound Captur shares its name with the one sold in European markets, the two are based on different platforms. Unlike the Euro-spec model, which based on the more advanced Renault's B-Platform, the one coming to India shares its platform with the Duster. It is also dimensionally different, measuring 211 mm longer.

The Renault Captur will rival the Hyundai Creta as well as entry level trims of the Jeep Compass.

Renault is yet to shed light on the specifications of the SUV. In all probability, it will get the same 1.5 L K9K diesel from the Renault Duster. Keeping the slightly more premium positioning of the Captur in mind, expect Renault to offer the 110 PS variant only. The Duster's H4K 1.5 L petrol engine could also be carried over to the Hyundai Creta challenger.
