TGI is Volkswagen's branding for its engines that run on petrol and natural gas. The sixth generation VW Polo is the first-ever VW Polo to have a natural gas engine option. Its engine is a 1.0-litre TGI three-cylinder unit developing 90 PS from 4,500-5,800 rpm and 160 Nm of torque from 1,900-3,500 rpm. It belongs to the EA211 engine family. A 5-speed manual transmission sends the drive to the front wheels.

As long as there is sufficient CNG in the tank, the VW Polo TGI starts in natural gas mode. In the case when there's no CNG left, the engine automatically switches to petrol mode. The car uses RON 95 standard petrol. Volkswagen expects the TGI engine to provide the Polo Comfortline/Polo Highline a maximum driving range of over 1,190 km.

The 2017 VW Polo TGI in the images is equipped with the R-Line package. On the outside, the sporty styling package brings textured black radiator grille with R-Line badge, R-Line front bumper with R-Line 'C signature' in high-gloss black, fog lamps, textured black R-Line air intake grille, 16-inch Sebring alloy wheels, textured black side sill extensions, R-Line rear diffuser with chrome trims for the exhaust system and roof spoiler. 17-inch Bonneville alloy wheels are also available.

Volkswagen manufactures the Euro-spec sixth-gen VW Polo in Navarra, Spain, where the car will go on sale in October.
