The Maruti Swift Dzire is exported to South Africa as the Suzuki Swift Dzire. Come 17 May, the 2017 Maruti Dzire next will meet the Indian marketplace, but the situation is not that straightforward in South Africa.
When asked by CARmag.co.za about the all-new Dzire's South African launch, Suzuki Auto South Africa said that it had taken "no decision". The hatchback on which it's based, though, the fourth-gen Swift, will reach the South African dealerships in Q2 2018.
The Swift range accounts for nearly 40% of the company's sales in the country, and the local media say that it would be a matter of time before a formal communication is made on its launch. Maruti Suzuki exports the Dzire to Africa, Asia and Latin America, with about 60,000 units of the two generations shipped to the markets.
The 2017 Maruti Dzire is underpinned by the company's new lightweight and rigid Heartect platform and is up to 105 kg lighter than the current generation. Featuring an evolutionary design, the car retains the car's sub-4 metre body for tax benefits, but it does have a 20 mm longer wheelbase that should provide more space inside the car, a bonus for the Dzire in the domestic and overseas markets.
Maruti Suzuki offers the 2017 Maruti Dzire with the K12B 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 84.3 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine develops 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque, both in 5-speed manual transmission and 5-speed automated manual transmission models. As the all-new Dzire is significantly lighter, it should offer at least 5% higher fuel economy than the outgoing spec which delivers 20.85 km/l (petrol)/26.59 km/l (diesel).
The 2017 Maruti Dzire's bookings are officially open for INR 11,000. The all-new Dzire is expected to cost INR 50k-70k higher than the outgoing model.
