Looks different from the recently leaked Jeep K8 concept.

Jeep has released two teasers of its new concept SUV that will debut at Auto Shanghai 2017 this month. Along with the release of the teasers, the company has announced the Chinese name of the concept model – ‘Jeep Yuntu’.

Chinese media reports suggest that the Jeep Yuntu will evolve into a production mid-size SUV.

The Jeep Yuntu concept looks a little different from rumoured Jeep K8 concept that was revealed in leaked images last week. Both seem to have similar proportions, but differ in some elements like the headlamps, bumpers, tail lamps, wheels and more. The Yuntu concept looks more radical, while the K8 concept appears to have a near-production design. Sketches of both models preview a new made-for-China SUV.

Chinese media reports suggest that the Jeep Yuntu will evolve into a production mid-size SUV that will compete with the likes of the VW Atlas (VW Teramont), Toyota Highlander and Ford Edge. Previously it was speculated that the new three-row SUV is a much smaller, C-segment model targeted at 5+2-seat models like the VW Tiguan Allspace and Honda CR-V (7-seat).

The Jeep Yuntu concept has a badge on its front door that says that it is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It is probably powered by the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid’s powertrain that consists of the 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine and two electric motors.

The production version will likely get petrol models in addition to a frugal hybrid variant and is expected to hit the Chinese market in early 2018.
