The second generation Jeep Compass is now available in the international markets and will go on sale in India in August 2017. Months ahead of its market launch, the Indian-spec 2017 Jeep Compass was spied in Pondicherry, courtesy YouTube channel Trippers Cookers.

The second generation Jeep Compass is based on the Small-Wide 4X4 platform that underpins the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X sub-compact crossovers. The 2017 Compass measures 4,410 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width and 1,640 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. The compact SUV is available 1.4-litre FIRE MultiAir 2 petrol, 2.0-litre Tigershark petrol, 2.4-litre Tigershark MultiAir 2 petrol, 1.6-litre MultiJet II diesel and 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engines. Transmission choices include 6-speed manual, 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and 9-speed automatic.

2017 Jeep Compass buyers in India will likely get an option of 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, along with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission for the former and a 9-speed automatic transmission for the latter. The 2.0-litre diesel model should get the Jeep Active Drive full-time four-wheel drive system.

The 2017 Jeep Compass is sold internationally in four trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk, but the latter is not planned for India. Projector-beam headlamps with LED signature lights, LED signature tail lamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, power liftgate, dual-pane sunroof, 7.0-inch full-colour LED instrument cluster, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 9-speaker BeatsAudio Premium II audio system with a 12-channel amplifier and a subwoofer are some of the key features of the redesigned Jeep Compass.

FCA India will manufacture the 2017 Jeep Compass at the in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, and export the vehicle to right-hand drive markets like Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa. The Hyundai Tucson rival will reportedly start at INR 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
