Will be exclusive to the 1.2 petrol variant initially.

The Tata Tiago's automated manual transmission is a Magneti Marelli-built 5-speed unit. Tata offers AMT on the Zest and the Nano.

We reckon that the Tata Tiago's automated manual transmission is a Magneti Marelli-built 5-speed unit. Initially, the AMT option will be launched in the petrol model and fuel efficiency would be more or less similar to the petrol manual’s 23.84 km/L figure.

It is unclear if the AMT unit will be exclusive to the XM and XT grades, or offered even in the top-end XZ grade. It will rival the Maruti Celerio AMT, Hyundai Grand i10 AT and even the less-powerful-but-lighter Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT.

The same transmission will also make its way in the Tata Kite 5, which is expected to launch in April. Given that sub-4m sedans like the Swift Dzire, VW Ameo and Tata Zest offer automatic options in diesel variants, Tata Motors could consider an AMT option for diesel as well.

The forum member who shared the spy shots says that the Tiago diesel will become available with the AMT option at a later date.
