Will go on sale early next year.

Soon after the seventh generation BMW 5 Series was unveiled, its M high-performance variant was leaked in CAD files. Based on them, BIMMERPOST has created renderings to preview the sixth generation BMW M5.

The 2018 BMW M5 (codename: BMW F90) is expected to incorporate the latest M styling elements from BMW M models such as the BMW M2. The all-new M5 should get high-gloss black double bar kidney grille with M emblem, modified front bumper with prominent air inlets that allow for freer airflow, unique lightweight alloy wheels and revised rear bumper with a rear diffuser and circular quad exhaust tips.

The new generation BMW 5 Series does not have the 'Carbon Core' structure unlike the latest BMW 7 Series but is still lighter by up to 100 kg. The next-gen BMW M5 could see a similar weight reduction. It will sport a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine tuned to produce around 600 hp. Along with a dual-clutch transmission, the all-new M5 will have an all-wheel-drive system - a first for the M5.

The driver will be able to switch between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive using different drive modes. It is reported that the new generation model will be capable of reaching 0-100 km/h in 3.5-3.6 seconds, much quicker than the current model (4.2 seconds). The top speed should still be limited to 250 km/h.
