The Yamaha R15 v3 (code - Yamaha BG7) is expected to launch in mid-2017 and reach Indian shores later this year.

At the heart of the Yamaha R15 v3 is expected to be a new powertrain displacing around 155 cc and with a lineage attached to the Yamaha Aerox 155. With the competition beating the present gen Yamaha R15 in terms of maximum power output, new bike is expected to be more powerful than the existing mill. The 149 cc engine in the R15 v2.0 produces 17 PS of power and 15 Nm of torque.

In order to continue with the compact Single Overhead Cam layout, the Yamaha R15 v3.0 will get Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) which will help the engine produce an ideal amount of power across all rev range. This will lead to better pickup during city traffic, somewhere the present R15 owner struggles.

Apart from these, the Yamaha R15 v3.0 also gets new LED headlamps and upside down forks up front. With the present model offered in two variants, R15 v2.0 and R15S, it remains to be seen whether the Yamaha R15 v3.0 will also be given a similar treatment.

It is still not clear whether the Yamaha R15 v3.0 will be offered in two trims, like the present R15 2.0 and R15S.

The Yamaha R15 v3 will be more expensive than the existing variant and is expected to be launched by mid-2017.
