Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the production-spec Maruti Ignis to the media today, nearly a year after it was unveiled as a pre-production concept at the Auto Expo 2016. The national launch is confirmed to take place on January 13, and bookings will open on January 1 across all NEXA showrooms in India.

The model showcased features an exterior color similar to the Baleno's Premium Urban Blue. Features that could attract Maruti's target audience - the millennials of today - include gloss black 15 inch alloy rims, LED projector headlamps with DRLs, rear windscreen wiper, black ORVM caps and a gloss-black painted roof.

Inside, the Ignis has a dual-tone ivory and black floating dashboard housing a freestanding 7 inch Smartplay touchscreen system (2-DIN audio system in lower variants), rectangular central HVAC vents, round HVAC vents with faux carbon fibre trim, black fabric upholstery, automatic climate control, new steering wheel design with audio and telephony buttons, push button start/stop and exterior-color coordinated trim on the floor console.

Like the Baleno, ABS and dual airbags are standard across all variants. The Ignis offers a boot capacity of 260L, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchoring points.

The Maruti Ignis will source its engine lineup from the Baleno, which includes the 1.2L K12B 4-cyl petrol engine and 1.3L 4-cyl DDiS 190 diesel engine. While a 5-speed manual is standard, Maruti is offering a 5-speed AMT gearbox as an option in both petrol and diesel variants. The model to-be-sold here does not get Suzuki's ALLGRIP AWD system, unlike the Ignis in Japan.
