From postings on the web, we gather that the Fortuner will be sold in six variants: 4×2 Petrol MT, 4×2 Petrol AT, 4×2 Diesel MT, 4×2 Diesel AT, 4×4 Diesel MT, 4×4 Diesel AT. Prices are expected to range between INR 27 Lakhs - INR 32 Lakhs (ex-showroom), and rival full-size SUVs like the Ford Endeavour and Hyundai Santa Fe. The Fortuner will have the distinction of being the only SUV in its class to offer a petrol-powered option.

The diesel variant will pack the new 2.8L GD four cylinder turbodiesel engine, while the petrol variant is powered by a 2.7L dual VVT-i four cylinder. Both engines are sourced from the Toyota Innova Crysta and can be had with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. A 4x4 drivetrain is exclusive to the diesel variant.
