Expected to debut at the LA Auto Show next month.

The 2017 MINI Countryman has been spied yet again, just a month ahead of its expected world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new spy shots, courtesy of Rudi from BimmerToday, give a close look at the second generation model’s exterior.

The second-gen MINI Countryman will be based on the UKL platform, and offer more interior space.

The second generation MINI Countryman’s design is an evolution of the current model’s. Up front, there’s the familiar hexagonal grille similar to the latest 3-Door, 5-Door, Clubman and Convertible, but it seems to be smaller. The rounded-off square headlamps shared with the MINI Paceman have been tweaked for a refreshed look. Redesigned air dam grille and bumper round-up the changes at the front.

The profile of the second generation model may look unchanged, but the rear windows appear smaller, leaving more room for the quarter glass. The rear-end is almost completely camouflaged, but the tweaked tail lamps show the transparent skin.

The biggest change the MINI Countryman will get with the generation change will be underneath the body. The current model was introduced based on a unique platform which was later utilised for the Paceman, while the second-gen model will be underpinned by the UKL platform.

Along with the TwinPower three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from the other family models, it will be available with a plug-in hybird powertrain as well – a first for a MINI.
