Both models to be imported in CBU form.
Four years after the American off-road brand’s Indian debut rumors started, Jeep will finally be making it to Indian dealerships next month. The company has announced that its Indian market launch will take place on 1 September, 2016. Two models will be available at launch: Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Jeep Wrangler will be available in India only in the 4-door Unlimited version. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited measures 4,583 mm in length, 1,877 mm in width and 1,829 mm (hardtop)/1,860 mm (soft top) in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,947 mm and a ground clearance of 238.2 mm. It’s powered by the 2.8-litre CRD turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 147 kW (200 PS/197.05 hp) at 3,600 rpm and 460 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,000 rpm.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission and distributed between them via the Command-Trac four-wheel drive system.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee will be sold in two grades: Limited and Summit. However, the range includes a high-performance variant – the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, as well. The standard variant measures 4,828 mm in length, 1,943 mm in width and 1,802 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,915 mm and a ground clearance of 206 mm. It’s powered by the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel turbocharged V6 diesel engine good for 179 kW (240 hp) and 570 Nm of torque.
Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed paddle-shift operated automatic transmission and distributed between them via the Quadra-Trac II (Limited)/Quadra Drive II (Summit) four-wheel drive system.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT measures 4,846 mm in length, 1,954 mm in width and 1,749 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,915 mm and a ground clearance of 210 mm. Thus, compared to the standard variant, the SRT variant is 18 mm longer, 11 mm wider and 53 mm shorter, and has a 4 mm higher ground clearance. It’s powered by the 6.4-litre HEMI naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine that churns out 350 kW (469.17 hp) and 630 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and distributed between them via the Quadra-Trac four-wheel drive system.
