2016 Toyota Fortuner starts testing in India
Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.
Will share engines with Toyota Innova Crysta.
Already on sale in markets like Thailand, South Africa, Australia and Middle East, the new Toyota Fortuner features a much bolder styling than before, comprising of sharp and contemporary elements. While the 2,750 mm long wheelbase is identical to the outgoing model, the new Fortuner is 90 mm longer and 15 mm wider, but 15 mm shorter in height (Thai spec).
The interior of the 2016 Fortuner will feature a design slightly different compared to the Toyota Innova Crysta. Top-end grades will be equipped with LED projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, A-TRC Traction Control (TRC) system, Down Hill Assist Control (DAC) system, electric tailgate, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control, 7 inch T-Connect infotainment system with satellite navigation and reversing camera and push button start/stop.
Like the Innova Crysta, the new Fortuner could come in both petrol and diesel variants. The former is likely to pack a 2.7L VVT-i four cylinder engine paired to a 6-speed AT, while the latter will offer two engine options: 2.4L or 2.8L four cylinder turbodiesel GD units. Transmission options for the latter include a 6-speed manual and automatic, while a 4WD system is likely to be equipped in the top-end 2.8 variant.
