The Baleno Boosterjet is confirmed to launch in the festive season as the Maruti Baleno RS.

The Boosterjet variant in India will feature a sportier body kit that was revealed at the Auto Expo 2016, featuring a mesh grille, sportier front bumper with a wider radiator intake and silver underlining, side skirts, black-painted alloy wheels, roof spoiler and a lower rear bumper. The Maruti Baleno RS will also be equipped with rear-disc brakes, reportedly.

The highlight of the Baleno is the engine under the hood - a 1.0L three cylinder 'Boosterjet' engine. In export-spec, the engine produces 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The Baleno RS will be more fuel efficient than the regular 1.2L Baleno petrol.

The Baleno RS will rival products like the Fiat Abarth Punto and the VW Polo GT TSI when launched. All three are powered by turbocharged petrol engines, while the Polo GT TSI is only equipped with a 7-speed DSG.
