To be manufactured at the Puebla plant in Mexico, the extended, three-row version of the second generation VW Tiguan was originally scheduled to enter production in 2016. However, announcing the production of the stretched version's first test body last month, the company slipped an update that the production has been delayed to Q1 2017.

The U.S.-spec VW Tiguan LWB will reportedly measure 185.0 inches (4,699 mm) in length, 72.4 inches (1,838.96 mm) in width and 64.3 inches (1,633.22) in height, and have a wheelbase of 109.9 inches (2,791.46 mm). The first MQB platform-based crossover/SUV class model will reach the U.S. market reportedly with a 184 hp 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged gasoline engine, in conjunction with an AISIN-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission.

The 2016 VW Tiguan LWB will reportedly have its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The Mexican plant will serve global markets, but not those in China. The China-spec version will be locally made by the SAIC-Volkswagen JV.

The 2016 VW Tiguan is confirmed to launch in India by the end of next year.
