Becomes top selling UV of the month.
In May, the Toyota Innova Crysta has managed to overtake the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Creta (two of the most popular SUVs in the market) and become the top selling UV as well as 9th best selling vehicle of the month.
Toyota sold 7,259 units of the Innova Crysta in May, thus registering a growth of 44 percent over last May, when the company sold only 5,028 units of the previous generation Toyota Innova (now discontinued). The sales number had since been falling consistently, until Toyota launched the Innova Crysta in April. What’s interesting to note is that Toyota still managed to pull this feat, despite the diesel ban in Delhi NCR – one of the Innova’s most important markets.
Toyota has received over 20,000 bookings for the Innova Crysta, for which a good percentage of the bookings are for the range-topping Toyota Innova Crysta 2.8 ZX AT that is priced at INR 20.78 Lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai). It’s powered by a 2.8L GD turbodiesel engine paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The base variant is priced from INR 13.84 Lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai), and packs a smaller 2.4L turbodiesel engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Reports suggest that Toyota will introduce a petrol variant of the Innova Crysta in H2 2016, with production commencing from July. It is a temporary solution to the ban on diesel-powered vehicles displacing over 2000cc that was imposed in Delhi NCR by the Supreme Court. The engine is likely to be the 2.7L four cylinder VVT-i unit, which develops 164 PS at 5,200 rpm and 25 kg-m of torque at 4,000 rpm.
