Will go on sale from 2017.

Auto Express has created a rendering of the next generation Maruti Swift (Suzuki Swift), based on leaked images that surfaced a few months back. It is expected to go on sale in 2017, and is claimed to offer a more dynamic and emotional driving experience than the practical Maruti Baleno.

The exterior styling will be an evolutionary leap forward with cues borrowed from the Maruti Baleno, whilst retaining the familiar lines of the older Swifts. It will be based on the Baleno‘s lightweight platform, thus shaving nearly 100 kg from the current model's kerb weight. This should improve the Swift’s fuel economy and performance, while the extra rigidity could increase crash protection levels.

The interior of the 2017 Swift is all new, comprising of a redesigned instrument cluster with a bigger multi-info display, new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a touchscreen SmartPlay system and automatic climate control with integrated digital display. Features seen in the leaked image are likely to be offered in the top-end grade.

The international-spec Suzuki Swift is likely to source its engine lineup from the Suzuki Baleno, which includes a 1.0L three-cylinder Boosterjet petrol engine and a 1.25L DualJet N/A engine with SHVS mild hybrid powertrain.

The India-spec Maruti Swift could continue with the 1.2 four cylinder K-Series petrol engine, albeit with certain refinements, while the diesel variant could get a brand new diesel engine developed by Maruti (Suzuki).
