Likely to debut in H2 2016.

At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Kia introduced the Kia GT concept, a compact 4-door sports sedan. It was the company's first concept car with a rear-wheel drive drivetrain layout. Almost 5 years later, the concept is finally set to evolve into a production car, a set of spy shots from Korea published by Motorgraph reveals.

The Kia GT will likely be based on the same rear-wheel drive platform as the Genesis G70.

The shape of the Kia GT (name unconfirmed), internally referred to as the 'Kia CK' has remained close to the concept's. Up front, it looks like just another sedan, but moving to the sides the GT is quite dramatic with the squat rear-end. The sleek greenhouse and the Kammback body style conveys that the CK may be aiming for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi A5 Sportback. At the rear, the test mule sports a chrome-finished, circular quad exhaust pipes.

The Kia GT sedan, previewed in the speculative rendering (below), will likely be based on the rear-wheel drive platform as the upcoming Genesis G70 that was previewed by the Genesis New York Concept. Nothing's known about the engines in tow, but a V6 seems certain for North America, while a 2.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine could be a good place to start in Europe and other global markets.

The Kia GT is expected to debut in the second half of the year. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Kia introducing a petrol-electric hybrid/plug-in hybrid variant at a later date as the company announced last year that it plans to offer 11 eco-friendly models by 2020 using hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains.
