SHVS tech standardized on diesel Ciaz and Ertiga.

Maruti-Suzuki introduced the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology on the Maruti Ciaz back in September 2015. This was followed by the launch of the technology on the Maruti Ertiga facelift, in October 2015. A report on Financial Express states that the carmaker has sold over 47,000 units of SHVS-equipped cars until March 2016.

The Ciaz SHVS delivers 28.09 km/l according to ARAI tests.

The SHVS technology was introduced only on the diesel variants of these cars. According to the company, 57 percent of Ertiga buyers opt for the diesel variant while 60 percent of Ciaz buyers choose the diesel variant of the sedan.

The SHVS system combines an ISG (Integrates Starter Generator), a brake energy recovery system, an auto start-stop system and a torque assist function. On the Ciaz SHVS, fuel efficiency went up from 26.21 km/l to 28.09 km/l thanks to the micro-hybrid technology. The system increased efficiency by 18 percent on the Ertiga to 24.52 km/l.

Aside from the benefits in fuel efficiency, the SHVS-equipped models also get an incentive of INR 13,000 thanks to the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020, a government initiative aiming to increase sales of electric and hybrid vehicles. Also, during the Odd-Even scheme in New Delhi, the SHVS-equipped Ciaz and Ertiga were exempted owing to their 'green' status.
