Will go on sale in October.

Peugeot unveiled the second generation Peugeot 3008 at a private event on May 23. It will go on sale across European markets in October, and deliveries will commence from January 2017. Here's a pictorial comparison between the latest and outgoing models.

The 2016 Peugeot 3008 adopts a rugged exterior that looks closer to an SUV than the outgoing model. The bolder exterior is attributed to the raised ride height, upright nose, long clamshell bonnet, black plastic cladding and roof rails.

The styling is also a departure from the outgoing 3008, and appears to be one of the boldest looking SUVs out there. It features a much wider grille, LED headlights and taillights, floating roofline and large 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the layout is quite revolutionary as compared to the run-of-the mill interior of the previous model. Previewed by Peugeot's i-Cockpit, the dashboard is designed around the driver with the center console and  its controls angled towards him. One of the main highlights is the 12.3-inch high-res screen that can be configured to display sat-nav, music info or conventional instrument dials.

There's also an 8-inch freestanding touchscreen on the dashboard, 'piano key’ switches for various functions and an interestingly designed gear selector beside the Grip Control terrain selector and the electronic parking brake. The new 3008 offers 520 liters of boot volume, which can be increased to 1580 liters by folding the rear seats.

The next gen Peugeot 3008 is based on the all new EMP2 platform, and is around 100 kg lighter than the outgoing 3008. The engine lineup includes two petrol and two diesel engines, with the latter offering a choice of power outputs. The petrol lineup has a 1.2L PureTech petrol with 128 bhp paired to a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, while the 1.6L petrol outputs 163 bhp with the 6-speed automatic unit.

Peugeot is offering more diesel-powered options this time around. The 1.6L BlueHDi unit is available in two different power outputs – 99bhp or 118bhp - and is offered with a five- or six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. Also available is a larger 2.0-litre BlueHDi diesel offered in 148 bhp or 178 bhp flavors, paired to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
