5 things we know about the Tata Tiago, launches today
Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.
After a couple of delays, Tata will finally launch the compact Tata Tiago hatchback on April 6. Here are 5 things we know about the Tata Tiago.
1. To spawn the Kite 5 compact sedan later this year
At the Auto Expo 2016, Tata unveiled the Kite 5 sub-4m sedan, which is basically a Tata Tiago with a boot. It is expected to arrive in the market later this year, and will be the third sub-4m sedan from Tata Motors.
2. Engine options
The engine lineup of the Tata Tiago comprises of a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces 85 PS and 114 Nm, and a 1.05-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine that develops 70 PS and 140 Nm. Both engines are completely new, and likely to be seen in future models. A five-speed manual is the only transmission option at launch.
3. No AMT for now
There will not be an AMT for the Tata Tiago at launch, but Tata officials have confirmed that an AMT option is in the works for Tata Tiago, which will be introduced later in its lifecycle. This will help rival one of the most popular options in the entry-level hatchback segment – the Maruti Celerio AMT.
4. Feature list
The top-end grade of the Tata Tiago is available with a decent list of features such as a ConnectNext Infotainment system that has been exclusively developed by HARMAN, an 8-speaker audio system with USB and Aux-In support, steering mounted audio controls, ABS, dual front airbags, height adjustable driver-seat, and electrically adjustable wing mirrors.
5. Bookings already open
Bookings for the Tata Tiago were open since March 10 for an initial amount of INR 10,000. As of now, Tata has not divulged the number of pre-orders they have received, but could reveal that number at the launch event.
