Renault has commenced the production of the Renault Kaptur at its plant in Moscow, Russia. The French automaker claims that the Kaptur's production commencement is a historical event in the automotive industry as it is for the first time that a global model is being produced first in Russia (before any other country).

The Renault Kaptur will be exported from the Moscow plant to Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan starting this year.

The Renault Kaptur measures 4,333 mm in length, 1,813 mm (excluding door mirrors) in width and 1,613 in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,674 mm. It has a ground clearance of 204 mm, and a boot capacity of 387 litres which can be increased to 1,200 litres by folding the rear seats. The engine, transmission, fuel economy and all other specifications are expected to be announced closer to market launch which will happen in Summer 2016 (June-August 2016).

This year itself, Renault will also start delivering the Kaptur in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Needless to say, these neighbouring countries will source the Kaptur from the Russian plant. The company has plans to export the crossover to Vietnam and other countries.
