List of 8 SUVs and MPVs launching in India in the next 2 months
Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.
Based on reports and confirmations, here are eight SUVs and MPVs that will launch in the Indian market in the next two months.
1. Toyota Innova Crysta
Toyota is prepping to launch the Innova Crysta next month. Reports suggest that the 2nd gen Innova will go on sale on May 3, and will only be available with two diesel engine options: 2.4 and 2.8 GD diesel engines.
2. Honda BR-V
The Brio-based Honda BR-V is confirmed to launch in India on May 5. It will be the first SUV from Honda to be completely manufactured at their plant in Takapura, Rajasthan. Unlike other markets, the BR-V for India will offer a 1.5L i-DTEC engine.
3. Tata Hexa
Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016, the Tata Hexa will arrive in showrooms from June 2016, according to reports. It will be the most feature-packed Tata product ever, and could pack a downsized version of the 2.2-liter VARICOR diesel engine.
4. Mercedes GLC
Since the Mercedes GLK was never available as an RHD, Mercedes couldn’t enter the luxury SUV segment comprising of the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. With the GLC, that’s about to change, as it is not only available as an RHD, but will also be locally assembled at their plant in Chakan, Pune. It’s expected to arrive in June 2016
5. Datsun redi-GO
Although it’s neither an SUV or MPV, Datsun is marketing the redi-GO as an urban crossover. To be one of the least expensive petrol-powered vehicles in the market, the redi-GO will replicate the Kwid’s success by following its strategy of frugal engineering and competitive pricing. Expected to be priced from INR 2.44 Lakhs, the redi-GO will go on sale from June 1, while pre-orders will open on May 1.
6. Bentley Bentayga
Bentley’s first ever SUV in its history will also be sold in the Indian market from April 22. It is powered by a 6.0-liter twin turbo W12 engine that sends power to all four wheels via an 8-speed gearbox, and is the most powerful SUV in the market.
7. Hyundai Creta Petrol AT
Given the rising demand for vehicles with automatic gearboxes, Hyundai will introduce a Petrol AT variant of the Hyundai Creta in the coming days. The 6-speed automatic option will only be available in the SX+ grade for the 1.6-liter GDi engine.
8. Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee
Following its unveil at the Auto Expo 2016, Jeep will launch the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee within the next two months. The products include the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep Grand Cherokee and SRT Grand Cherokee. All three models will be imported via the CBU route.
