Economic Times has learnt from the vendors/suppliers of Maruti Suzuki that the company has revised its production plan for the Maruti Vitara Brezza after witnessing strong reception at the Auto Expo 2016. MSIL will now produce 1,00,000 units of the Vitara Brezza in the first year against the 80,000 planned earlier.
Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki India, told Economic Times that the company is planning to take leadership in the Brezza’s segment in 12-24 months. The closest rivals of the compact SUV are the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300. He added that “if we are creating a product for the new segment, we have to be number one in the segment. If the segment grows to about 1.5 to 2 lakh units per annum, we would aim at 45-50% segment share.”
The report also quotes Gaurav Vangaal, Senior analyst for forecasting at IHS Automotive, stating that Maruti Suzuki is likely to expand the sub-4 metre segment in the market by more than double its present size (volume).
