The India-spec Hyundai Tucson is likely to be introduced with only a diesel engine. In Korea, the Tucson sports a 2.0L (1,995 cc) four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that develops 136 KW (182 hp) and 400 Nm of torque, which would be the right fit considering the segment and its rivals. It comes with Hyundai’s Active On-Demand AWD system and a six-speed automatic transmission.

In India, the Tucson will be positioned between the Hyundai Creta and the company's flagship model, the Hyundai Santa Fe. Apparently, Hyundai had fast-tracked the launch of the Tucson seeing the Creta's response. It will be assembled at the company's plant in Chennai with CKD kits from Czech Republic or Korea.
