The current, second generation Ford EcoSport went on sale in 2012 and is due for a mid-life facelift this year. Here are five things we know about the 2017 Ford EcoSport.
Exterior changes in mid-life facelifts generally revolve around new bumpers, lamps, grille and wheels. One exterior change that’s certain on the EcoSport facelift is new headlamps reminiscent of the new Ford Endeavour. This change was spotted on a test mule recently spied in Brazil. The spare wheel will continue being externally mounted in markets like India, China and Brazil, whereas the car has already lost this feature in Europe.
Spy shots have revealed that the 2017 Ford EcoSport will have a redesigned instrument panel with a new digital display between the tachometer and speedometer with neon blue illuminated dials. The Ford SYNC infotainment system may also be updated with a full colour display, akin to the newer Ford models.
The engine line-up, at least in India, is expected to remain unchanged. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol, 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol and the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel currently offered may be refined for efficiency at the most. It was only last year that Ford India upgraded the EcoSport’ diesel engine with more power, while the EcoSport ‘S’ petrol variant for Europe has gotten a similar tune-up.
The facelifted 2017 Ford EcoSport will mark the car’s entry in the USA. The North American-spec EcoSport will not be shipped from Brazil, but from India, as per a report. It may retail only with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine from the Fiesta with maximum power and maximum torque bumped up to around 140 hp and 140 lb.-ft. (190 Nm).
The 2017 Ford EcoSport will probably be launched in South America (its debut market) first in the second half of the year. The Indian launch will follow a few months later.
