Maruti Suzuki has announced that the Maruti Ciaz and Maruti Ertiga equipped with the SHVS mild hybrid tech have garnered positive response in the Indian market; selling over 40,000 SHVS-equipped vehicles in four months.

The good demand can be attributed to the higher mileage and price discounts.

The company claims that out of the 5,000 units and 6,000 units of the Ciaz and Ertiga sold every month, almost 58 per cent and 57 per cent sales come from the SHVS variants, respectively. The good demand can be attributed to the higher mileage and price discounts for mild hybrid vehicles as part of initiatives such as Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles (FAME). The SHVS equipped vehicles were also exempted by the odd-even scheme in Delhi.

Only available in the diesel variants of the Ciaz and Ertiga, it comes equipped with an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator), integrating features like a brake energy recovery system that converts kinetic energy of the rolling wheels (while decelerating) into current useful for charging up the battery, an auto start-stop system to boost mileage, and a torque assist function.

As of now, Maruti haven't divulged the next wave of products to get SHVS, although it's likely that the Maruti Ignis could feature the fuel-saving tech when launched during the festive season. Earlier this month, Maruti's R&D boss ruled out SHVS technology for smaller vehicles like Maruti Alto and Maruti Wagon R.
