Will go on sale in Q3 2016.

Following its world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA), the Suzuki Baleno (Maruti Suzuki Baleno) was first launched in India last year, and this year it's headed to Australia, the local subsidiary has confirmed.

The Suzuki Baleno will be imported from India. The previous gen Alto (A-Star) was the last model Maruti exported to the Australian market.

The Australian market will first see the launch of the fourth generation Suzuki Vitara in Q2 2016, and then the Baleno in Q3 2016. The latter will be imported from India.

Like in India, the Suzuki Swift will continue being sold along with the Suzuki Baleno, with the latter being a bigger, more premium hatchback. Suzuki Australia hasn't put up the Baleno on its website or announced the car's full specifications, but it has confirmed that the BoosterJet engine will be available. In other markets, the 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine produces 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque.

The Australian-spec Suzuki Baleno will offer 335 litres of boot space and be equipped with a 7-inch infotainment system featuring satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration compatibility.

The safety quotient will likely be bumped up with provision for curtain airbags and knee airbag. Other features should include HID headlights with LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, reversing camera, automatic climate control and push button starter.
