More than 50% of Maruti Baleno buyers opt for top-end model - Report

According to a report on Financial Express, Maruti Suzuki's management has revealed that over fifty percent of the bookings for the Maruti Baleno has been for the top-end model. They have also mentioned that the customers of the Maruti Swift have generally been opting for the mid-level variant.

The top-end version of the Maruti Baleno petrol is priced at INR 7.06 lakhs and the top-end diesel model is priced at INR 8.16 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

By comparing the two phenomena the company claims that the cannibalisation between the Swift and the Baleno is very minimal, as the price difference between the mid-variant Swift and the top-end Baleno is substantial. The mid-versions of Swift, VXi and VDi, are priced between INR 5.43 lakhs and INR 6.43 lakhs; whereas the range-topping models of the Baleno are priced between INR 7.06 lakhs and INR 8.16 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Baleno has sold 10,572 units in December 2015 while the Hyundai Elite i20 sold 10,379 units.

Over the past few months (September, October, November and December of 2015), sales of the Maruti Swift has been declining, from 18,278 units to 14,548 units. The case of DZire has also been the same - 19,682 units to 16,790. The Baleno which was launched in October, sold 10,572 units in December, overtaking its chief competitor, the Hyundai Elite i20, which sold 10,379 units.
