Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin announced for local assembly - Auto Expo 2016

Second model with high displacement to be locally assembled.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has unveiled the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin at the Auto Expo 2016. The company has announced that the adventure motorcycle will soon begin to be assembled locally, making it the second high displacement bike in Honda's local lineup to be assembled in India, first being the Honda CBR650F. The CRF1000L has proven its mettle at one of the world's toughest races - the Dakar rally.

The off-road tourer is powered by a new 998 cc parallel-twin engine with SOHC, that has been designed to have a low centre of gravity.  It features a 270° phased crank, Unicam 4 valve-per-cylinder head, dry sump and a common crankcase for both, DCT (automatic) and 6-speed manual transmission versions. The DCT variant will have buttons on the left handlebar switchgear that can be used to shift gears in the manual mode.

The standard features on the Africa Twin include ABS and traction control, both of which can be turned off. The motorcycle also features Honda Selectable Torque Control. The 2016 Africa Twin is already on sale in European markets, priced at EUR 12,100 (INR 8.64 lakhs).
