Days ahead of its premiere, speculative renderings by Theophilus Chin serve as a preview. Up front, the 2016 VW Golf features new headlamps, new three-bar chrome grille - both inspired by the 2015 VW Passat (B9) - and restyled front bumper, air dam grille and fog lamps. At the rear, the tail lamps and the bumper have been given little tweaks.

With the facelift, Volkswagen will reportedly debut new 1.5-litre four-cylinder engines in multiple outputs. The new engines will become available around 6 months after the new Golf's Swiss debut. These new units will replace the current 1.4- and 1.6-litre mills, but the 1.8- and 2.0-litre engines may continue being offered.
