Driver airbag optional on all variants of Maruti Alto and Maruti K10 - IAB Report

ABS is still unavailable on the India-spec Altos.

The country's largest car maker has made driver-side airbag optional on all variants of the Maruti Alto 800 and the Maruti Alto K10. Earlier, a driver-airbag was exclusive to the VXi variant of the Alto 800 and VXi (O) variant of the Alto K10.

The airbag-equipped versions cost INR 6,000 more than the non-airbag model.

Prices below are for the Alto 800 and Alto K10 equipped with a driver airbag, ex-Showroom, New Delhi:

  3. Maruti Alto 800 LXI (O) - INR 3,21,365
  4. Maruti Alto 800 LXI CNG (O) - INR 3,78,420
  5. Maruti Alto K10 LXI (O) - INR 3,45,844
  6. Maruti Alto K10 VXI AGS (O) - INR 4,11,609
  7. Maruti Alto K10 LXI CNG (O) - INR 4,08,162

In comparison to the non-airbag variants of the Alto 800 and Alto K10, the driver-airbag equipped version costs INR 6,000 more. Aside from this, Maruti also says the left, outside wing mirror is available across all variants of the small cars.

The Alto nameplate has sold 29 lakh units in India cumulatively.

Most recently, Maruti made safety features like dual front airbags and ABS optional on all variants of the Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Stingray, Maruti Celerio, Maruti Dzire and Maruti Ertiga. These safety features are offered standard on cars sold from NEXA outlets: the S-Cross and the Baleno.

Till date, Maruti has sold 29 lakh units of the Alto nameplate in the country. In FY 2014-15 alone, the Alto twins managed average monthly sales of 22,000 units.
