The signature kidney grille is now larger and the bumper has also been changed. The flanks receive new alloy wheel design and a very sharp shoulder line going all the way to the tail lights. At the rear, the LED tail lights get the distinctive dual L-shaped clusters as well as a modified bumper.

The interior features a 6.5-inch display for the BMW iDrive infotainment system and automatic climate control as standard, there is also an 8.8-inch display for the optional navigation system. The cabin is decorated with aluminum finish for the AC vents, center console, steering wheel and door release, while a gloss-black panel has been used to embellish the dashboard.

This unit found in the 116i gives it a top speed of 190 km/h and a 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) time of 10.9 seconds. The diesel range begins from the 116d which has a 1.5-liter three cylinder pushing out 116 hp and 270 Nm of torque.
