Will be unveiled in Detroit next week.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback‘s monocoque has been snapped ahead of the car’s world premiere at the 2016 North American International Auto Show next week. The body could be of an engineering mule, as reports suggest that production of the second generation model will begin at GM’s Ramos Arizpe assembly plant in Mexico. The North American-spec Cruze sedan will be built at GM’s Lordstown, Ohio assembly plant in USA.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback is a cousin to the Opel Astra, developed as a global product in contrast to the latter that mainly focuses on Europe. Riding on the same D2XX platform as the fifth-gen Opel Astra, the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback will be available exclusively with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 153 hp and 177 lb.-ft. (240 Nm) of torque. Transmission choices should include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
The Cruze Hatchback has the same 106.3-inch (2,700 mm) wheelbase as the Cruze sedan. It offers a luggage space of 524 liters, which can be increased to 1,189 liters by folding the rear seats. Noteworthy features include LED daytime running lights, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Park Assist.
