Hyundai claims that the Toyota Prius rival will offer class-leading aerodynamics, thanks to the slippery notchback body-style and active aero features like flaps integrated in the hexagonal grille to direct airflow over the car.

The interior of the Ioniq is inline with Hyundai's current design language. As seen in spyshots, the interior adopts a simple, no frills design that combines “efficient use of interior space and a clear, logical approach that is applied to the layout of control functions”. Apparently, the materials used to trim the cabin are eco-friendly, so as to highlight the car's nature.

Based on an all new platform, the Hyundai Ioniq will be available as an EV, plug-in hybrid, and petrol-electric hybrid. Reports suggest that the petrol-electric hybrid will be powered by a 1.6-liter GDI petrol Atkinson cycle engine that the company recently unveiled, which produces 77 kW (103 hp) of power and 147 Nm of torque.
