Both engine choices for India will be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The BR-V will launch in India next year with 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines borrowed from the Honda City. As reported earlier, the petrol and diesel engines will be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, and the petrol could also receive the option of a CVT.

Features observed on the BR-V prototype include projector headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, front and rear skid plates, roof rails, steering mounted audio controls, a City-inspired instrument cluster, a touchscreen music system, automatic climate control and roof-mounted rear AC vents.

When launched, the BR-V would be the most expensive product based on the Brio platform.

The BR-V will be showcased in India for the first time at the Auto Expo 2016, though a report mentions it will enter production in April 2016 at Honda Cars India's Tapukara Rajasthan plant. The crossover is based on the Amaze platform, which is well localized in India (above 90 percent).

The BR-V in India will primarily compete against the Mahindra XUV500, the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster on price. In comparison to the compact SUVs, the BR-V gets an additional row of seats at the rear, similar to the XUV500.
