The Kwid has already amassed 50,000 bookings in five weeks, reportedly.

In an interview to ET Auto in Tokyo, Carlos Ghosn has expressed interest in wanting the Kwid's success to turn into increased market share for Renault India.

Mr Ghosn says:

I am delighted at the response, and I just want our team to transform it into market share. For the moment, the bookings are very strong and now we need to transform this into market share.

Renault India is targeting 2x market share of 5 percent by the end of 2016.

Recently a report suggested that Renault has garnered 50,000 bookings for the Renault Kwid in five weeks since it was launched. Its success can be attributed to the car's pricing and the features that it comes with. The car's crossover type looks is viewed as another reason.

For instance, at INR 3.53 Lakhs, the Kwid comes with body-painted bumpers, wheel covers, a 7-inch MEDIANAV touchscreen display with Bluetooth and USB support, power windows in the front, driver’s airbag and a digital instrument display.

The Kwid AMT is expected to launch in 2016. A Renault Kwid diesel is however ruled out.

It's powered by a newly developed 799 cc three-cylinder petrol engine capable of 54 PS at 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque at 4,386 rpm. It is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and is capable of an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 25.17 km/l, which makes it the most fuel efficient petrol car in India.
