Debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show (2016 NAIAS).
Courtesy of mbpassion.de, a couple of photographs of the 2016 Mercedes E Class' body shell has surfaced online. The design has already been partially revealed by several spyshots and renders, which borrows cues from the Mercedes S Class and Mercedes C Class.
The 2016 Mercedes E Class will, reportedly, be 55 mm longer than the outgoing model, and features shorter overhangs to accommodate the stretched wheelbase in a similar overall length. As expected, the design will blend cues from the 2015 Mercedes C Class and 2014 Mercedes S Class, so as to highlight its middle ground position.
Along with the regular sedan and estate variants, reports suggest that Mercedes will also introduce a pseudo-crossover variant (codenamed X213) that will compete against the Audi A6 Allroad. It is expected to arrive in dealerships in 2017.
Under the hood, the 2016 Mercedes E Class' engine lineup will comprise of next generation 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines (codename – OM654) alongside existing four-cylinder petrol engines. Higher variants will reportedly come with an all new range of 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engines, and the 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine would power the AMG variant.
The 2016 Mercedes E Class will, reportedly, make its debut at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show (2016 NAIAS) in January. An Indian launch could take place in late 2016, where the new E Class will be assembled at the company's plant in Chakan, Pune, following its launch as a CBU model.
