The body gets several revisions for the Clubsport variant like a new front bumper, new side sills, 18- or 19-inch forged alloys and gloss black side mirrors. The rear features a multi-part roof spoiler, a new diffuser, smoked tail lights and chrome plated exhausts at either end; which are bigger than the ones on regular GTI models. A black stripe at the baseline pays homage to original 1976 Golf GTI.

The cabin receives folding racing bucket seats which are partially covered in Alcantara featuring a honeycomb pattern in the backrests and seat cushions. Other sporty bits include a gear knob in golf ball design, black headliner, red topstitching and new trim strips featuring the “Honeycomb 40” design. Alcantara has also been lavished on the gear lever and the sports steering wheel. GTI lettering is seen throughout the cabin on the back of front seats, the steering wheel and the door sill plates.

The Clubsport is the most powerful production GTI ever. Power for this hot hatch comes from the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 265 PS, which is 35 PS more powerful than the regular Golf GTI. Volkswagen have also given this model an Overboost function which increases the engine’s output to 290 PS for a short period of 10 seconds. The Clubsport sprints from 0-100 kmph in 6 seconds when paired with the 6-speed manual, this figure decreases to 5.9 seconds with the 6-speed DSG unit.
