Ahead if its world debut at the IAA 2015 in Frankfurt, the next generation 2016 VW Tiguan was spotted undisguised by Carscoops reader, Sean, in Canada. The pre-production model appears to be shooting for an advertisement.

The 2016 VW Tiguan looks more like a "mini-Touareg".

As expected, the upcoming VW Tiguan will drop the boxy crossover looks for a premium and new design that looks closer to an SUV. It draws influence from the VW Cross Coupe GTE from the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Although the front end hasn't been captured, it could feature a pair of angular bi-xenon headlamps with LED DRLs directly flowing into a grille.

What has been revealed is the side profile and rear-end of the 2016 VW Tiguan, which is a revolutionary jump over the previous model. At the side, the Tiguan appears to be sitting on large 18 inch diamond cut alloy rims, and comes with a small chrome element on the front wing, a chrome line that runs across the side, chrome underlining for the window line, and roof rails.

The second generation VW Tiguan appears to be longer and wider than before for better road presence and interior space.

The top view depicts a large panoramic glass roof and a shark fin antenna. Coming to the back, it sports a sleek pair of horizontal LED taillamps, larger windscreen, roof spoiler, a chrome line on the bumper, and twin chrome exhaust tips.

The VW Tiguan is based on the MQB platform, which is around 100 kg lighter and more refined than the outgoing PQ35 platform. It is expected to source some of its engines from the 2015 VW Golf (also based on the MQB platform), which include a 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI engines, as well as diesel options like a 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI. It could be paired to VW's new 10-speed DSG automatic gearbox, or continue offering the 7-speed DSG unit.

The standard VW Tiguan will spawn an extended version with 7-seats, and, reportedly, a Tiguan CC with coupe styling. The VW Tiguan is confirmed for arrival in the Indian market in 2016, where it could be assembled at their factory in Chakan.
