Launch delayed due to Hero’s tech partner, EBR’s, bankruptcy.
Courtesy of GaadiWaadi, the production-spec Hero HX 250R has been spotted up close for the first time since it was revealed as a near production concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. It is expected to launch by the end of this financial year.
Spotted here is an all black Hero HX 250R with a contrasting red mono shock spring. The sporty bike has been designed and engineered from the ground up jointly with Hero’s technology collaborator Erik Buell Racing, AVL and Engines Engineering.
It is powered by an all new 249 cc single cylinder water-cooled unit making 31 hp of max power and 26 Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a multi-plate wet clutch. Thanks to the its lightweight Geodesic Tubular Frame (149 kg), the HX 250R is capable of hitting 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds. Reports claim that the riders can select from two driving modes – City and Sports – which tunes the powertrain’s characteristics for better efficiency or better power respectively.
Suspension duties are carried out by the traditional telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear, with the shock mounted on the left to shorten the wheelbase. As for the braking system, it gets a 300 mm disc brake up front and a 220 mm disc brake at the rear with optional ABS.
