First plug-in hybrid from Mini.

Mini is currently prepping a PHEV version of the next generation 2017 Mini Countryman, which was recently spotted testing in Munich, courtesy of instagram user Michael Wulz . The only evidence indicating that it's a PHEV is the "Hybrid Test Vehicle" sticker on the rear bumper and doors.

The Mini Countryman PHEV will combine the 136 hp 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo motor with a 102 hp electric motor for a combined output of 238 hp.

To be based on the UKL platform, it is likely to borrow the hybrid powertrain that BMW is developing for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (riding on the same platform). It will combine the 136 hp 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo motor with a 102 hp electric motor for a combined output of 238 hp.

The conventional AWD system will be eliminated, as the IC engine will power the front wheels, while the electric motor sends torque to the rear wheels. Expect it to feature a brake energy recuperation system and a full-electric driving mode. At the moment, details on electric range and battery capacity are scarce.

The next generation Mini Countryman will adopt an "authentic SUV" styling, and, reportedly, measure just over 4.25 m long (a stretch of 150 mm) and at least 10 mm wider than the current model. It is expected to be more off-road friendly and will borrow cues from the Mini ALL4 Dakar X-Raid.

The 2017 Mini Countryman and Countryman PHEV is expected to launch in Q4 2016.
