The 2016 Tiguan replaces the current PQ35 Golf-sourced platform and adopts the new MQB platform.

The 2016 Tiguan will move out of the PQ35 Golf-sourced platform and adopt the new MQB platform. High-strength materials will be used in its construction and it is expected to be substantially lighter than the present generation, by almost 100 kg, says the website.

The rendering shows the compact dimensions of the SUV and highlights its sporty character as well while at the same retaining its rugged appeal. The new Tiguan has been reported to get an increase of 5 centimeters taking the length to almost 4.5 meters. The wheelbase will also grow by 8 centimeters to 2.68 meters.

The 2016 Tiguan at its launch is likely to get five petrol and four diesel engines. The petrol range will have a choice of 1.4- and 2.0-liter TSI engines generating outputs varying from 125 bhp to 220 bhp. The diesel options are likely to be the 1.6- and 2.0-liter TDI mills capable of 120 bhp and 240 bhp respectively; with the latter getting twin-turbocharging. Front-wheel drive will be standard with 4MOTION electronic all-wheel drive offered on top-end trims.
