The interior design principles of the Genesis - safety, intuitiveness and simplicity - has been applied to the new Elantra with fewer buttons and a similar 8-inch touchscreen.

The teaser image that is shown does not provide a clear look at the interior. However, from what is apparent we can make out that the cabin has a flowing design with very few buttons. There are chrome strips (or contrast strips) on the dashboard as well as the door pads, and the cabin has a dual-tone layout.

The center console is dominated by two screens; the one at the top belongs to the 8-inch infotainment system with the one below reserved for the auto climate control. The transmission tunnel houses the gear lever, cup holders and mechanical parking brake. A three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and engine start/stop button can also be seen.

Safety features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and pedestrian detection system, are expected on the vehicle.

The 2016 Elantra will derive power from a 1.6 Turbo GDi delivering 175 bhp that can be optioned either with a 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual. The European/Korean variant, additionally, is likely to get Hyundai’s new 1.7-liter diesel engine already seen in the Korean-spec Sonata that produces 141 bhp and 340 Nm of torque, married to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
