Will launch in 2016 as a BMW X4 rival.

It has not been long since Mercedes unveiled the Mercedes GLC Class, and already a video of the Mercedes GLC Coupe pre-production mule testing has surfaced online. It sports minimal camouflage in the front section, while the rear is heavily disguised to hide the sloping coupe roofline.

The design was previewed by the GLC Coupe Concept from the Auto Shanghai 2015. The only noticeable changes are the sloping roof-line that looks similar to the bigger GLE Coupe, sportier front and rear bumpers, and sleek horizontal LED taillamps.

The interior could be identical to the Mercedes GLC. Expect the changes to be shared between the GLC Coupe and the upcoming C-Class Coupe, such as sportier leather seats, performance-themed interior colors and dashboard trim, COMAND infotainment system, ARTICO leather seat upholstery with contrast stitching, and a Head-Up display.

The GLC Coupe will be loaded with the same engine lineup from the standard GLC. The latter is available with a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. In the GLC SUV, the entry level GLC 220 d delivers 170 hp and 400 Nm of torque, a GLC 250 d outputs 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque, a GLC 250 petrol puts out 211 hp and 350 Nm peak torque, and a range-topping GLC 350 e plug-in hybrid delivers a total output of 327 hp (211+116 hp).

As per online reports, Mercedes is also planning to introduce GLC 450 AMG Sport powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine, and perhaps a range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 with a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 could also be introduced.

The GLC Coupe will make its global debut in 2016. It's unclear if Mercedes India will consider introducing the model in demand. If they do bring over the GLC Coupe, expect it to follow the CBU channel, and marketed in the country as a niche product.
