The TUV300's (Tough Utility Vehicle) design was inspired by a battle tank, and Italian firm Pininfarina has lent its expertise in designing the sub-4 meter SUV. Mahindra confirmed that the TUV300 will not replace the Bolero or any Mahindra product for that matter.

The 'global model', which will also be manufactured in left-hand drive configuration, will launch in India in mid-September. It will be powered by an all-new 1.5-liter diesel engine called 'mHawk80' with 'superior' levels of NVH and refinement. While the TUV300 is capable of hosting a 4WD architecture, Mahindra will not launch a 4WD variant to begin with.

A 4WD variant on the TUV300 may be launched later on its its lifecycle.

The TUV300 was developed at the Mahindra research valley in Chennai, and will be produced at the company's Chakan plant, which also makes the XUV500.
